The most common by product of Placer mining is Blacksands. Considered worthless by most and discarded, many blacksands contain much more than Iron. Rare minerals such as Tantalum, Columbium, Zirconium, Hafnium, Titanium, Niobium, Thorium, Scandium, Yttrium to name a few.
